Race 12 - Day 17
Crew Diary - New York, USA to Derry-Londonderry, Northern Ireland
07 July
Greetings from the GSIC!
We have had an exciting few days at sea and it has
building on board too as we sail our final miles up the west coast of Ireland.
Every time I do a log and have a sneaky peak at the charts it's hard to believe
that we are sailing by my home country! Although we haven't sighted
land yet I'm sure it will superb later on today when we do.
Sailing has been brilliant, covering big mileage, with
the kites up for extended periods of time. I guess it must some
kind of magnetic lure of Guinness that's drawing IchorCoal towards Derry-Londonderry.
Menus have been altered slightly and we are now being treated to fresh meat at
most meals.
No more rehydrated lamb (much to Superman's delight) for this
race This morning I woke up the smell of bacon wafting from the
galley, what a surprise for your regular Thursday morning on board IchorCoal,
this is usually a Sunday morning delight! Thanks Raff and Hollywood.
I was on Mother yesterday with Davina. This
was our second day in the galley together and what a giggle! Rebecca
Ormisher - it was nearly on par with our Level 1 training mother
duties! Our first day we had a wee incident with gravy now re-named
as 'gravy gate'. Slight miscalculation with the powder to water
ratio! Yesterday we had a fresh water pump malfunction just before we needed to
fill a LARGE pot of water to boil pasta to feed the hungry
troops. We ended up boiling it in salty water and had slight panic
that the pasta was going to be too salty after hearing previous horror stories from
round the worlders popping into the galley! Luckily we got away with
it, with no complaints, clean bowls all around. Sweetened them all
up with fabulous dessert baked by Davina.
Arriving in Derry-Londonderry, will be a petty special
experience for me and we are all looking forward the spectacular warm welcome
from Derry City! Watch out Derry-Londonderry, IchorCoal are on their way!!
Love to all family and friend, will catch up in Derry-Londonderry
very soon!! Hugs to Ollie!
Before I finish, just want to mention Kirsty that
Tatty's plaits have survived-She is super proud!
Love IchorCoal.
