Race 7 - Day 21
Crew Diary - Whitsundays to Da Nang, Vietnam
09 February
Good afternoon Sir, and welcome to “Clipper Cruises”.
We have you in a first class bunk, so please follow me and I'll show you to
your quarters.
For your convenience, you'll be next to the engine room, so you certainly won't
feel the cold. No clock as you'll very handily have an hourly alarm call when
one of the ship's crew checks the day tanks.
We have you on an upper bunk which you'll only be sharing with one other person
and it's our extra wide berth, so you should be able to get most of your second
shoulder onto the mattress. You can see here the specially designed wall you
can use to climb your bunk. If you need
extra assistance on of our second-class passengers sleeping below you will be
happy to offer you their face to stand on.
Your meals will be served in the galley/saloon area 6
days a week. On the seventh day we offer
you the compulsory opportunity to participate in cooking classes where you'll
learn to cook a wide range of dried carbohydrates for 16 people and we are
currently offering an authentic washing up experience for free. Every second meal
you will get chance to dine with the Skipper, which is an excellent opportunity
to find out all the ways that you could have done things better that day and to
expand on your vocabulary.
For ease of knowing whether it is occupied, your
private bathroom is located just off the main communal area. By private we of
course mean that no-one will be using it at the same time as you, but just be
aware that the door cloth is not fully sound proofed. We also offer a self-clean
service on all our bathrooms – a very popular choice in heavy weather.
We have a wide range of spa treatments available – here
is our spa menu. Probably the most popular choice is yachty botty, but we could
also offer you foot rot, jock rot or heat rash. We also have an exceptional
semi-private open air shower, with a fresh salt scrub, which can be used any
time, conditions permitting. That is located at deck level at the stern of the
boat next to the black bucket.
For entertainment, we have the ever popular Sail
Locker Cinema – check your Wifi guide for this week's performances. Our
signature roller coaster ride The Foredeck is available on deck at the front of
the boat – no pre bookings required as there is very rarely a queue. There are also regular TED talks held in the
cockpit on various topics on an ad-hoc basis such as “if you had a
superpower....”, “beard grooming etiquette”, “could an omnipotent being make a
stone too heavy for himself to lift?”, “does that cloud look like a...” or “the rules of 21.....again”
To assist you with settling in we have a short
glossary of some of the terms you may hear during your crossing, you can read
this on your own time but as a few examples:
“Downwind”:
slidey-glidey
“Upwind”:
bashy-crashy
“Does anyone want to volunteer”: You've just been
given a job to do.
“I'm just going to check the radar”: It's time to put
on several layers of waterproof clothing
Please let me know if there is anything else I can
assist with to make your stay less comfortable, otherwise please enjoy your
voyage and thank you for travelling with “Clipper Cruises”.
