Homecoming

Eyes cast to leeward piping drink in hand, When arctic rains cut in the deep of night, Thoughts rolling homeward to loved ones on land, The arc of her smile warm beige candlelight.

When deafened by the howling northwest wind, When freezing fog steals all fair stars from sight, The lilt of her laugh harmonies do find.

Her dark eyes glint celestial and bright.

To toil that knows no night or day farewell, Poseidon’s tricks and fickle skies adieu, Though now there be some mermaids tales to tell, Old wanderlust lies sated under yew.

In dawn breaks chill she watches from on high, Our ship appears and tears fall from the skies!
