Hey all,
Well, it's Saturday and this brings us to 4 weeks on the ocean.
We're past Rio De Janeiro and level with Ilha De Cananeia (Brazil), about 170 miles off shore. As I type this, distance to Punta de Este is 1,026 miles, so depending on wind and waves, maybe 4 to 5 days!!! We can almost taste the beer!
We saw some Pilot whales yesterday and they did the whole flappy tail in the air thing which was amazing! The whole crew rushed on deck (all donning lifejackets of course) and it was such an amazing sight to see them so close (20m off the Starboard beam).
Weather is good, we're under spinnaker so a lot easier to live, less of an angle! But we've seen some impressive boat speeds today and some impressive wind speeds. 28 knots at one point with our Code 2 (mediumweight spinnaker) up. This means the boat constantly trying to broach and at one point the tip of our boom was 4 foot deep in the ocean!
It has made for great sailing though, the water is still warm, which is great when you're stood up by the shrouds trimming the kite and we’re still in 3rd!!!* So, wish us fair winds and no wraps and hopefully Punta and a beer in a few days!
Hi to Jim and the Capital Planning & Estates team! Music today has been some awesome Talking Heads and Psycho Killer.
Love and kisses from the South Atlantic,
Nate
