Planning for Punta

With the ocean sprint behind us today the focus turned to Punta del Este. At Happy Hour our stopover manager, Steve, brought up some practicalities and planning prior to arrival. Quiet nights on the rail we've dreamed of steaks and showers, now a week away and the mood has changed. We're tired, dirty, a bit battered, and perpetually wet; nearly everyone is ready for port. Except me! I've settled into our shared life at sea, the closeness that has grown through these challenging weeks. Curled up on the rail naming stars, playing the games Tom pulls from thin (wet) air, poetry readings, flying fish attacks, laughter, sharing the stories of our lives - these moments soon to be memories. Six of our crew leave us and I will miss them all beyond measure. It's easy to feel melancholy.

So, for perspective while I type this, yells emanate from the deck as the most massive wave yet washes over the deck, drenching all crew including the helm. From the floor Lizzie pulls dry pasta from her hair that flew from somewhere. Simon tips a tin of tomatoes into the pot without spilling! We cheer.

I look forward to seeing you all in Punta, and welcoming our new crew.

Cheers, Shannon
