Virtual Clipper Race champion revealed

As well as offering every day people the unique opportunity of taking on the world’s most extreme conditions, the Clipper Race also allows fans to sign up for the Virtual Clipper Race from the comfort of an armchair.

While the crews who took part in Clipper 11-12 were battling on bucking foredecks to change a headsail in pitch darkness, high winds and rough seas, the same manoeuvre in the game was achieved by a simple click of the mouse!

Last weekend, Jacques-Yves André was crowned the Virtual Clipper Race champion for the latest edition of the race at a party held at the Sèvres Yacht Club on the outskirts of Paris.As well as winning two individual races, Jacques-Yves walked away with a cool €2,000 for first place overall.

Throughout the Virtual Clipper Race €30,000 worth of cash prizes were on offer and each individual race winner was awarded a Henri Lloyd stow bag with the ocean crossings also securing a Rotary Aquaspeed watch.

Plans for the next edition of the Virtual Clipper Race are already underway and will be confirmed close to the start of the Clipper Race in summer 2013.
