Women taking up challenge of Clipper Race

Back to archive

More women than ever before are signing up for the Clipper Race and this week, just over a year since she completed the Pacific leg of the race, Dr Elin Haf Davies is encouraging women to take on challenges like this.

The Welsh rower who combines medical research with adventure, is no stranger to Ocean challenges and has made a short film, which includes her time on the Clipper Race, to support the launch of a new initiative by the National Council of Women in Great Britain to give young women and girls a voice. Amongst the prizes is the chance to interview our only Clipper 13-14 Race female skipper Vicky Ellis. She is only the third woman in the history of the race to skipper an entry. Around 40 per cent of the 650 crew participating in the next race are women.
