As I write we are just 18 nautical miles from the notorious Pentland Firth, which is renowned for its tidal flow, which at times can run in excess of 8 knots.

The approach has really shaken up the fleet with adverse tide and patchy wind.

Today has been ok, this morning saw us all sailing along in single file, so we decided to take a more inshore route, we gained nothing from this, however we didn't lose anything either as when we gybed off we were in ninth and when we re-joined the fleet we were in ninth, so it was well worth a go as we could have gained a couple of spots.

The wind is going to continue to be light all throughout our transit through the Firth, before filling in from the southeast as we delve into the North Sea.
