Well we are nearly there, yippee.

The last leg from Rockall wasn’t all plain sailing. The breeze built as forecast so we finally did a headsail change and went down to the Yankee 3. We eventually ended up with 3 reefs but not for long, so a bit of action.

The sailing is now pleasant with the breeze on the beam. I can almost taste that nice cool glass of wine, that’s one of the best things about finishing a yacht race, it doesn’t matter what time it is, you will always have a beer or wine.

I am a bit sad there are no more ocean crossings left, but we have done it. Now just a couple of sprints. Derry-Londonderry, we are looking forward to meeting you, you sound like a lot of fun.

But now, just because we haven’t sailed enough, the current is against us, so at times we are only doing 5 knots over the ground. The angle of the breeze is just not right for a kite, and then the better news is, when we get round Rathlin island the tide would have changed and it will be against us again, with the breeze easing right off, oh joy, oh joy.

The hardest part is we will be sailing past our finish line, up past it then we come back to it, so maybe today Derry-Londonderry - fingers crossed by breakfast time.

Cheers, Wendo
