Greg Miller’s sailing career began as a sea scout in Gosport. Between leaving secondary school and joining the British Army, where he served for 24 years, Greg worked as a sailing and water-sports instructor in Portsmouth.

Greg has vast experience of sailing different vessels in varying conditions including two Atlantic Ocean and a Southern Ocean crossing. He says: “I cut my teeth on the 'big boats' and ocean sailing with the military and Joint Services Adventurous Sail Training Centre. One of my most memorable moments at sea was when HMS Illustrious pulled up next to our 50-foot yacht in the middle of the Atlantic to drop off a crew member.

“I want to build a solid team that any skipper would be proud to sail with. I would like them to become a close-knit family and a high performing team. Humility will be their motto, podium positions will be their goal.”

Aside from sailing, Greg has gained his Private Pilot’s licence and has a love of motorbikes, especially Ducatis. Greg says “I toyed with the idea of a career in aviation for a while and would probably have gone that way if my passion for sailing had not surfaced.

“I’ve been working as a Clipper Race training skipper and with my discharge from the army, the timing was perfect for me to join this year’s race. I am yet to sail the Pacific Ocean so am really looking forward to Leg 6.”
