After 1600 nm from Seattle, off the coast of Baja Peninsula, Mexico, we are finally getting some warmer temperatures. Being an Aussie, I am a bit cold adverse (hey, that’s why I left Canada!) so the warmer temperatures are certainly welcome. The two 6 hour night watches are hard work when it’s cold. But nonetheless, this last evening was noticeably warmer, with a star filled night and a bright half moon to guide our way. We must have sailed through a squid nursery, and startled them to jet through the air and onto the deck, much to the shrieks of the non-seafood lovers on board. Their hoods were only 100-150mm long, so I proceeded to clean them, ready for a salt and pepper squid taster at the 16:00 watch-change the next day. A resounding success! Humm, I wonder if we’ll get more suicidal squid in the coming days?
