Hello everyone,

Here I am, actually doing something that I set out to do. Arriving at Punta del Este seems a lifetime ago with the apprehension and nervousness of what I was about to take on. I put my right foot forward, stepped on board and put my bags away in my designated lockers. We slipped the lines, paraded the sails, did a 7 mile race to get the blood flowing and then we were off for real straight into 35/40 knot winds!

Since then life has continued to be as expected with the added pleasure of beautiful sunrises and settings, bizarre green lights in the sky, shooting stars. The bird life is keeping us company in the form of black petrels, albatross and terns. I have yet to see any sea life.

The people on board are fantastic and moral is upbeat. It is refreshing to work with people as a team. Perhaps doing a leg of a race should be completed by everyone so that team work is fully grasped and then can be transferred to life on civvy street.

Looking forward to arriving in Cape Town and if we can keep up the pace that we are currently on it maybe as early as the middle of next week.

Off to change my clothes and catch some sleep.

See you all soon. Mary
