Race 10 - Day 12
Crew Diary - Race 10 - The First Week
31 March
Hello everyone, especially to all our supporters!
We’re all very happy and enthused to have gotten off to a great start on this race. It's been especially fun to be neck and neck with Unicef who we have been battling for position with for the last bit. Seeing them so close makes if feel very much like the race it is.
Seasickness has hit a few of us over the past few days, as we have been beating up wind, which is never enjoyable but we all power through, knowing that it won't last more than a few days. The rest of the crew are always offering support and picking up the slack, remembering times when they haven’t felt their best. Thankfully the temperature has started to drop below the point of sweating buckets as we lay in our bunks trying to get a few moments of sleep, revelling in the breeze of our small 12 volt fans pointed directly at our faces. Or, time on deck hunting for small ever-changing patches of shade behind the sail or mast. No one is missing the heat right now, equally, no one is looking forward to the cold, which is sure to come.
But, enough complaining, here’s a short list of great things about being on board:
The little bird who looks out of place resting on our boat with no land in sight
- - Dolphins chasing our boat down just to show us who would win in a race
- - The delicious meals every day
- - The laughs and smiles of everyone caught on camera enjoying the little things
- - Getting to know the intrepid (word of the day) people who have chosen to cross the world's - largest ocean together
It’s now time to help make tuna melt wraps for lunch and then head on deck to help race this boat to the finish line.
