Status Quo

Thirty days at sea means you make the most with what you’ve got. You wash your dishes in salt water, mix your coffee with warm water, sleep with daylight and exchange the same story to sixteen ears, sixteen different ways.

Selfies are our mirrors, wildlife is our television, buckets are our showers (not much of that going on) and our patio (deck) has the most epic view of our backyard. Although our pool chairs aren’t the most comfortable, we do have multifunctional umbrellas that provide shade and speed.

We are now at the point of entertaining ourselves with the most minor and trivial things. Inflating my dry suit on deck to look like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man, using food as props, and rubbing Wojciech’s bald head for good luck. Whatever it may be, team GoToBermuda can find a way to stay entertained.

Even though we came on board with thousands of songs downloaded, Spotify gave us the short end of the stick. Only three songs have survived the North Pacific. Those three have gotten us through the action sport of cooking dinner, going to bed at a 45 degree angle, and surfing down untamed North Pacific rollers.

Whoever cooks bread that day is MVC (Most Valuable Crew) and whoever opens a bag of chips seems like the neighbourhood drug dealer. Everything is made with long lasting milk, an acquired taste, something I think I have mastered. Two out of three meals seem to be made with pasta and you’ll be damned if it's served without a slice of boat-made cake.

Like meerkats, we are constantly sticking our heads out of the companionway – a six step ladder connecting our den to the world above, surveying for predators but in this case strong squalls that will shoot us to Seattle.

6 more days to go (we hope).
