We are now eleven days into the race and still going strong. Life at 45 has become a reality and even seemingly simple tasks like eating cereal have become much more difficult, as Jim Weiss experienced first hand this morning.

Breakfast in general was a pretty grim affair, and as me and Manuel cleaned splatters of jam off the walls, I was reminded of a particularly gruesome crime scene in a film I had seen recently.

Comparing yesterday to today is like black and white - full main and wind seeker up, struggling to maintain boat speed, versus third reef and yankee three easily making tenknots plus upwind. Every so often you find yourself levitating as we drop off a wave, so it's not uncommon to see crew wearing a hat or two for added protection. All in all, things are going well aboard Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam as we make good speed up towards Japan on the North Pacific Current.

Fair winds,

Tom
