Champagne Sailing

As we were motoring out of the marina from Seattle. Everybody is happy and for the newcomers, enjoying the adventure in front of us. We have such a beautiful group of people. The sun is shining and people laugh, music is on. Everything is good. From the round the worlders, we understood they've been really looking forward to this Leg. Of course because of the Panama Canal but also really ready for beautiful weather, wildlife, downwind, calm sea state, and not too much heel over.

The idea is that every day it becomes warmer. Starting with foulies and a lot of layers but shorts and t-shirts is the goal. Because champagne sailing here we come!

And then all of a sudden, we are sailing upwind. But ok nothing we can not handle. Layers stay on and the sea state becomes less calm than before. People starting to feel seasick and we know it's a phase we have to go through. But you want to fully enjoy all the time on the boat. Working for a good spot in the race, get used to the watch system. And seeing beautiful wildlife in the day and in the night. No time for seasickness. But it has to wait first to go through the phase of seasickness. And then when you think you can not handle it anymore. The sun shines again, music is on. Don't feel sick anymore. Dolphins were spotted and some people already saw whales. Climbing in the ranking of this race. Every day we take a layer off. And we say to each other "tomorrow t-shirts and shorts!" We have not reached that yet. But we are slowly getting there.
