The art of hair washing
Day 15. It was my day on galley, and this was the day. With a little more time on my hands, Lottie and I decided to wash our hair.
I filled 2 small jugs of fresh water, one each for rinsing our soapy heads and a large bucket for dunking our heads. I stumbled with excitement to the stern where Lottie retrieved an additional bucket from the laz. We had already had a bucket overboard from a previous hygiene related endeavour – Sandra you’re an icon - so Lottie gripped the rope attached to the bucket tightly and dunked it into the Pacific.
You will be relieved to know we successfully filled a bucket with lovely warm Pacific sea water. I was up first. Our knowledgeable and encouraging AQP advised me to dunk my head in. I did so and consequently was mocked mercilessly by the entirety of the on deck watch for the vigour and extent of my head dunk. Despite the mockery, I excitedly continued shampooing my greasy, salty hair.
Once my head was thoroughly massaged and lathered. A final dunk in the sea water bucket and the Lottie helped me rinse my hair with fresh water. A torrent of fresh water slathered my head, and the end result was a clean head of hair with the general appearance of a slightly burnt version of the girl from the horror movie “The Ring”. After I afforded Lottie the same “help” and then with a squeaky-clean head of hair, Ran and I headed off to the galley bracing ourselves to feed the masses for 24 hours. ON ON!
