Hello all from Punta,
What a wonderful few days of sailing we have had! After a tough first stint beating up to wind and a cold second period we finally find ourselves rocketing with a kite up. The news of the day is a Punta record has been broken with 306 nautical miles sailed over a 24 hour period at 12.8 NM per hour. With the kite up and fair winds we are flying! I personally found beating upwind really tough and to be at this angle at such speeds is exhilarating. I believe the whole crew is relishing the challenge with crew morale high and a shared desire to push forwards. We are often helping each watch with evolutions in particular during changeovers to ensure precise, safe & error-free sailing. Some of us are now starting to think about that finish line in the not too distant future. Chat on deck has turned to what type of food you are most looking forward to eating. As it's a drizzly wet day it felt like a good day for a pub lunch so I look forward to settling in by a fireplace in a few weeks time...as for today’s menu we were treated to a steak and ale pie in a tin with mash potato, kindly brought aboard by Pip (who sacrificed precious baggage allowance to bring them over from the UK!)
First though, some tough racing with competition at its most critical. All of us here on Punta are up for it and I hope you watch the epic conclusion to this mammoth race closely, it's sure to be nail biting. I would also like to take this opportunity to say I am so looking forward to seeing my family and girlfriend shortly and I miss them a lot.
Vamos Punta!
Much Love
Charles
