Happy boat, happy sailing.
Can’t believe we have just started the race. It seems like we have been waiting for a while. I started to get used to the jobs and life on board. The people are well organised so the boat is neat and clean. We are all taking good care of the boat and our boat is taking good care of us too.
We are trying to get used to the heat during the day on board and in the cabin. For the daytime watches under the hot sun is a tough one because you have nowhere to hide. Sitting under a small piece of shade under one of the sails is a pleasant moment. We still can see some of the boats at the moment. Punta del Este and WTC Logistics are still in our sight. We have had some light wind moments in the morning, so we dropped and hoisted the staysail three times so far. Wish us luck to find some strong wind later. We have happy hour from 1330-1430. Today’s happy hour is about sailing, trimming and car position. We also had a sailing quiz yesterday. Red Watch VS. Gold Watch. The prize and punishment are both water gun shooting shower. Red Watch won. Everyone had a great happy hour from that one. I’m happy to be a part of this team and having this great adventure with Qingdao Team.
You would be amazed to see the view in the ocean. We get to see the fabulous blue North Pacific Ocean water every day. It’s so blue. Flying fish leap out of the water and glide for a while. Sometimes you also see dolphin pods. Clouds sometime are puffy and huge, sometimes they are thin and dark. You can even tell which part of the ocean is raining. I want to take pictures of every sunrise and sunset. Compare with daytime, nighttime is more enjoyable because it is usually much cooler. There are tons of stars above my head. Shooting stars are a fun thing to look for. There are some many wonderful things here that you would not see in cities.
Tomorrow is Chinese New Year Eve it’s going to be the most special one for us. Looking forward to it. Happy Chinese New Year and keeping going fast dragon boat!
