Living in our time zone.
It’s nice to be able to set your own time zone, you get to decide what watch gets to see the sunrise and the sunset and whether to eat dinner during light or after dark. Lost in the count of days, today we felt it was time to travel in time. Funny thing, this time travel.
Modern technology doesn’t allow you any room for setting your own time. When you try to set time on your phone, it only allows you to search for some city, but what city can you set, to be on the same longitude as you are, when you’re in the middle of the Atlantic? I tried to set the time on my Casio watch, but it requires a connection to the phone app, which requires a connection to the network.Where’s that chronometer when you need one?
Today the boat celebrated the completion of circumnavigation of the “world”, as we have passed the same longitude as Punta Del Este, Uruguay. Quite an achievement for many on the boat. No doubt they will not be the same sailorsstepping off the boat, as they were stepping on it.The event was accompanied by a celebratory cake that everyone enjoyed for dessert at dinner.
Just before dinner, while waking the next watch, Bob has decided to play a game of finding Andy. Reminded me of how sometimes we try to find our cat at home and go crazy thinking he ran away, while in fact he’s just been comfortably sleeping in some cozy corner. So after looking for Andy in all the odd places of the boat, including the sail locker and the laz, we finally came around to look for him in his bunk, where we found him comfortably asleep, not aware the boat had travelled forward in time, and it is time to wake up and get ready for the next watch.
