South China Sea
What is it about reunions?
They elicit a raft of responses...
Joy, excitement, expectations, apprehension, and insecurities resurface as envy, even resignation.
Reunion is to reconnect, explore, or conform to the bonds made during earlier iterations of ourselves.
My own reunion with Punta encompassed some of the above as we departed to take on the South China Sea, a challenging body of water with its notorious short seas, multitudes of fishing boats, fickle winds including geo-political tensions. We skirted the Taiwanese coast and Japanese islands under spinnaker in glorious weather knowing the chill was on its way. Punta has changed too, her round-the-worlders are fewer and the remaining are more wizened by the elements physically and mentally - unsurprising really, given this is a serious undertaking, kudos to them all.
We have now crossed most of the East China Sea with Qingdao in our sights and I feel Yacht Club Punta del Este's warm camaraderie protecting her newcomers and returners, knowing the spirit of adventure and sailing unites us all to create new histories to regale the willing or unwilling...lol
Our shakedown race to Qingdao has laid a wonderful foundation to tackle the mighty Pacific.
Vamos Punta!
