What could bring more joy to Zhuhai’s crew than delicious food? After eating similar food for two consecutive legs, Zhuhai Leg 3 Ambassador crew member Wenwen brought us a surprising new menu: Chinese beef noodles! Sia, another member of the ambassador crew, and I tried cooking for the first time when we were on Mother Watch.
7 onions, 14 carrots, 2 kilograms of ground beef, and 30 small pieces of egg noodles. The simple ingredients brought surprises of Chinese food culture to the 22 crew members. Cut the onion into strips and stir-fry until medium cooked, then add the carrot cubes and stir-fry, add sesame oil to increase the fragrance. When the carrot is slightly soft, start adding ground beef, stir slowly, then add soy sauce to colour, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and finally add Simmer a little beef stock over low heat for half an hour, and the delicious beef sauce is ready! When the time reaches 12 noon, it is the watch changeover time. Put the egg noodles in the pot. After five minutes, take out a portion of the cooked noodles. Then pour the beef sauce on the noodles and add a little ham as topping. A hot Chinese beef noodles was presented in front of the Zhuhai crew.
The whole salon was very lively. Chinese songs were playing in the kitchen. I was cooking noodles and Sia was in charge of serving. The crew ate happily and exclaimed in surprise: Are we almost arriving in Zhuhai? It seems like being in a Chinese restaurant! Most of the crew had two portions, and some were clamouring for a third. In this famous Southern Ocean Roaring Forties, I believe this different lunch brought warmth to the cold and wet competition.
