Limited Edition autographed Clipper Race jacket up for grabs
Back to archiveThe race’s official charity the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is giving you the chance to show your support to teenage cancer and win the ultimate memento – a one of a kind autographed Henri Lloyd jacket by legendary UK sailors, Dame Ellen MacArthur and Sir Robin Knox-Johnston.
Announced as official charity of the Clipper Round the World Race 2013-14 back in October last year, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a charity that aims to give young people in recovery from cancer the chance to rebuild their confidence through sailing. It works with every young person’s primary cancer care unit in the UK, taking young people aged between 8 and-24 sailing while they are in recovery from cancer.
For just £5 you can enter the raffle for a chance to win this unique jacket and all proceeds from the sale go to the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. The winner will be drawn and announced by Dame Ellen herself at the Clipper Race Finish at St Katharine Docks, London on 12 July 2014.
To date the Clipper Round the World Race has raised over £16,000 for the Trust. This will go such a long way in helping it achieve its three-year plan to double the number of young people it works with by 2016. The funds raised so far will enable it to take an additional 32 young people on a first time sailing trip with the Trust.
Racing from New York to London on board the GREAT Britain entry is Lucie Carrington, a 26 year-old from Lancaster, UK and ambassador for the race’s official charity.
At just 15 Lucie was diagnosed with a Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone and soft tissue cancer in her left arm. Having first been invited to join the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust after finishing treatment in 2011, Lucie took part in a four-day sailing trip and now volunteers for the charity.
“In 2004 I was diagnosed with cancer. I didn't think that 10 years on I would be sailing across the Atlantic Ocean. What makes this adventure even more special is that I’m getting to represent the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. The trust gave me a boost when I needed it most, and I am hoping I can raise a lot of money and awareness during my trip,” Lucie said.
