Clipper Ventures Plc, which runs the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race - the longest on the planet at 40,000 miles, has selected Mission Performance Ltd as its Learning and Development partner to create a unique opportunity to transfer the insights and performance lessons from round the world yacht racing into inspiring development programmes and experiences for business.

Mission Performance has been transferring the lessons from challenging environments to business for the last twelve years. It operates globally with a group of elite mountaineers, decorated soldiers, ocean racers, ocean rowers, pilots, polar explorers, actors and elite sportsmen and women.

William Ward, Chief Executive of Clipper Ventures said: “This is a very exciting development. The combination of our insights through operating the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race and the experience of Mission Performance will create a unique proposition.

“We selected Mission for their passion, specialist experience and track record. They have the ability to capture the lessons from our portfolio of ocean races and turn them into dynamic programmes that benefit entire organisations. This will not only add additional value to our sponsors, crew and corporate events customers but will also create new opportunities with businesses seeking an edge in today’s challenging competitive environment.”

Mission Performance is already a partner with ShelterBox - a disaster relief organisation, leadership academics Kouzes & Posner and is preferred supplier to a range of global organisations.

Rob Lewis, Managing Director of Mission Performance commented: “We have been going to extremes for our clients for 12 years. Stories of human endeavour and success against all the odds will always inspire people and organisations to greater things. We will research and capture these lessons from the Clipper Ventures portfolio and turn them into a range of products and services that can support existing or new development programmes.”

Clipper Ventures and Mission Performance will be setting up an innovative Learning and Development Forum for business partners that will give them exclusive access to the performance lessons from the Clipper Race and the means to share them within their organisations.

The launch of the Clipper Race Learning and Development Forum will take place on Thursday morning, 29 August, in St Katharine Docks near Tower Bridge in London, where the Clipper Race fleet of twelve identical 70 foot ocean racing yachts will be based before it departs on its next global race on 1 September.  Attendance is free, but places are limited.

Delegates will be welcomed by sailing legend Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the founder and chairman of the Clipper Race, who became the first person to sail solo, non-stop , around the world 45 years ago in 1968-9. They will also have the opportunity to climb aboard one of the new Clipper 70 ocean racing yachts. There will be helpful case studies and an expert forum session.

The launch event is aimed at key decision makers and business leaders; learning and development, HR, operations and sales directors.
