Season’s greetings from Sir Robin

With 2013 almost upon us, excitement continues to build as the Clipper Race approaches yet another huge milestone in its rich history.

The next edition of the world’s longest yacht race, starting in summer 2013, will witness the debut of the brand new twelve-strong fleet of Clipper 70s. The 70-foot ocean racers will set new speed records and test our crew to their breaking point.

Clipper Race Chairman, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, looks forward to the adventure ahead.

“The journey the crew will take will shape the rest of their lives; records will be broken and history will be made on board our brand new fleet of Clipper 70s.  Taking the new fleet for a test drive on their Level 3 training will push them further and test their limits.

“Being known as a good sailor is the highest accolade I can give anyone. That is the person you want sailing with you; the person you would choose when you know conditions are getting tough. Seamanship can be read, but it can only truly be learned through one’s hands, it comes with and from experience.

“The more you learn, the more confident you will become and the greater will be the rewards.

“I wish all our crew and followers a great Christmas, and may 2013 be the beginning of a new life.”
