Sir Robin Knox-Johnston to speak at new Cutty Sark theatre space

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston will be a guest speaker at the new theatre space on board iconic 19^th century British tea clipper, the Cutty Sark.  

The Clipper Race chairman and founder will give a talk about his lifetime of ocean adventures at The Even Keel Bar in the hold beneath the Greenwich-based ship on Thursday 30 January.

His talk will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience.

Sir Robin, a trustee of the Cutty Sark, said: “The hold will be a wonderful environment to retell my maritime adventures, including my inaugural solo global circumnavigation of 1968/69.

“It is a very fitting location as the Cutty Sark was a merchant ship, and I started my seafaring days in the merchant navy.

“We are hoping to gather momentum with a series of theatre events planned on the ship to give people the chance to really soak up the atmosphere in the heart one of the world’s most famous and beautiful ships.”

The Cutty Sark was one of the last tea clippers to be built and one of the fastest built during the golden age of sailing.

The sold out talk is part of the Cutty Sark Studio Theatre opening fortnight.
