It is estimated that 2,000 spectators got an insight yesterday into what life might be like on deck during the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race when they viewed the race’s GREAT Britainboat in Trafalgar Square. With temperatures hitting 32C yesterday in the capital, thousands more are expected to visit over the next few days.

The 70-foot yacht will be no stranger to these tropical conditions as it sets sail on its 40,000-mile round the world journey but its crew members would not usually expect to experience these temperatures till they depart on Leg 5 of their journey – from Western Australia to Singapore,  taking them through Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, the Philippine’s and Indonesia in South East Asia.

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race starts September 1 from London’s St Katherine Docks and will return 11 months later.

The GREAT Britain yacht is on show in Trafalgar Square till Sunday.
