Clipper Race fleet performs Parade of Sail on River Thames
30 July 2016
The Clipper Race fleet has performed a colourful Parade of Sail on the River Thames in London this morning after completing Race 14 and the full 40,000 nautical mile circumnavigation last night off Southend, UK.
The fleet began its parade at the Thames Barrier, and passed London landmarks such as Greenwich's Old Royal Naval College, The O2 Arena, Canary Wharf and historic Wapping.
Tower Bridge lifted twice for the twelve teams, which all passed through in front of thousands of spectators on supporter boats who turned out to cheer home the international sailors into the UK capital.
Today the fleet returns to St Katharine Docks, London, where
big crowds are welcoming home the fleet back to London after eleven months
circumnavigating the globe.
A prizegiving ceremony will commence at 1300 to celebrate all
the teams’ achievements during the ocean odyssey.
The LMAX Exchange team will be crowned overall winners of the Clipper 2015-16 Race series.
