Clipper Ventures 10 finishes Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

29 December 2014

Clipper Ventures 10 has crossed the finish line of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race at 04.55 local time Tuesday (17.55 UTC Monday).

International past and future Clipper Race crew competed on board the Sydney-based Clipper Events yacht, led by Clipper 09-10 and 11-12 Race skipper, Piers Dudin.

The team completed the 628-mile, 117-boat course in three days,15 hours, 55 minutes, 35 seconds. The race started with a hard beat out of Sydney, and saw a range of weather including a 12 hour period where the team was becalmed and winds of 40 knots in the final 12 hours into Hobart,

Piers said: "It has been a tough but epic race. We are stoked to have finished, especially after a difficult last 45 miles with the big front coming in. Despite the slightly disappointing result we've had a great time and I couldn't have hoped for a wider range of conditions to challenge the crew. Since we put the team together less than two weeks ago they have really risen up to a truly epic challenge.

"What looked like a 50/50 call on the second night to head South of West turned out to favour the Westerly direction as opposed to the one I chose and we ended up losing significant miles to the rest of the fleet. Similarly, in the very light airs of the previous day. The crew gave it their all and we are delighted."

Clipper Ventures 10 is a Clipper 68 that has gone round the world four times in previous editions of the Clipper Race,

It also competed in the RSHYR last year alongside the entire Clipper Round the World fleet of Clipper 70s which raced as part of the 40,000 mile circumnavigation.

The Clipper Ventures Australia base is open for training and events, and in the Clipper 2015-16 Race the round the world fleet will once again compete in the RSHYR during Leg 4 from west to east coast Australia.
