It’s hard for Emanuele Rivoira to decide what he finds most exciting about the Southern Ocean Leg 3 from Cape Town to Fremantle; the journey or the destination.

Both sailing across the Southern Ocean and visiting Australia will be new experiences for the 35 year old IT Entrepreneur from Turin, Italy, who will be also be taking part in the Mighty Pacific Ocean Leg 6 on board Garmin.

“I've never been to Australia or Fremantle before,” says Emanuele.

“And that's why I'm really looking forward to Fremantle, and seeing all the exceptional beauty of Australia.”

But as keen as Emanuele is to experience the delights of Western Australia, he is also enjoying every moment of the 4,754 nautical mile, three week long adventure from Cape Town to Fremantle.

“The Southern Ocean is a really spoken about place for sailing. I've heard about it many times but I had to see it for myself.”

Emanuele has sailed all his life and after coming across the Clipper Race, he knew it was the challenge he was looking for.

“I'm doing the Clipper Race because I was looking for something epic to do. And go to places I've never been, with exceptional people like I'm meeting on this great adventure.”

As well as a talent for fixing mechanical and electrical systems on board, Emanuele will also be bringing another skill to Garmin, and one that will most likely become a team favourite.

“Well, I stepped on Garmin with my Italian style, with my Italian recipes, foods, and cooking, so there is a bit of Italian everywhere on our home.”

The Clipper Race fleet will arrive in Fremantle between 21 and 25 November, and will be berthed at the Fremantle Sailing Club.
