Winner of Roaring Forties Match Race Announced

After making fast progress from Cape Town, Punta del Este has been declared the winner of Roaring Forties Match Race.

This follows the news that, due to light winds overnight, Visit Sanya, China has officially accepted second place and elected to switch on its engine and make best speed to Fremantle by any means. Visit Sanya declared its position at 2226 UTC on 16/12/19.

Says Mark Light, Clipper Race Director: “You have made really fantastic progress over the past nineteen days and we are looking forward to you both getting to Australia. Well done to both teams and have a safe and fast final few days to Fremantle.”

All three remaining teams, Unicef, Visit Sanya and Punta del Este have the option to motor sail to Fremantle. Their current ETAs are as follows:

Punta del Este: Thursday 19 December 1200 -1800

Unicef: Friday 20 December 0600 - 1200

Visit Sanya, China: Friday 20 December 1200 - 1800

The Roaring Forties Match Race trophy will be presented to Punta del Este at a Prizegiving held at Fremantle Sailing Club after the three teams arrive.
