Throughout Race Start week, Liverpool became a hive of activity with local, national and international press all in attendance. We are pleased to reveal that the activity has amounted to ourstrongest ever race week media coverage in eleven editions, coming in at 44% higher than the race start in 2015.

Between August 9 – 21 we had 407 print articles with an estimated reach of 285.5 million people. These stories covered the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, China, Ireland, Uruguay, New Zealand, Brazil, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Russia, Hong Kong, South Africa.

Key print highlights to note include three appearances in The Daily Telegraph, the front cover of The Times, inside page of The Guardian and inside page of the i(ndependent). We also had good coverage in the Liverpool Echo, New Zealand Herald, Daily Telegraph (Sydney, Australia) and many appearances in Chinese newspapers including China Daily.

We also had 853 broadcast hits with a reach of 160.4 million people. In the UK this included live interviews and coverage on BBC Breakfast (three different days), BBC World, BBC News 24, Sky News and ITV London plus 20 regional stations including BBC London and BBC North West.

On UK national radio the race was heard on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5, BBC World Service, LBC and 65 different Regional BBC and Commercial Radio stations across the country.

International stations included NBC and FOX in the USA, CNBC in Europe; ABC News Radio and Channel 9 in Australia plus CP24 and CBC plus lots of local radio in Canada.

On Race Start day itself, website visits were 25% higher than 2015 with the number of page views up by 34% Social media was alive with activity with the number of people who saw our Facebook posts alone up by a massive 71%. The Livestream of Race Start which was featured across our online channels was viewed by a minimum 75,000 people around the world, proving the global appeal the race has.
