Hi all,
I just woke up to my 0100 shift to the breeze picking up which is always a nice feeling, It looks like we will have a split in the fleet now with different routes of wind and current areas. Race to the Scoring Gate perhaps??
Life on board is great, everyone has settled nicely into the routine especially with 21 crew plus myself and Charlie making 23 on board in total - a big number! Maybe that's why we have had two birthdays already, it being Sean's two days ago and then Steven's yesterday. Another good moment yesterday that the Race Office highlighted was that it was exactly for weeks until our arrival back into Portsmouth. These last two months have flown by but looking back 10 months then it does feel like we have accomplished a lot in that time so I’m feeling almost ready to wrap this circumnavigation up.
On the sailing front, the boat is feeling well and all crew very motivated for this one so hoping for some great sailing between now and Race Finish into Oban, Scotland. We had a high pressure system coming off the mainland, giving us head winds but that will be replaced by a small low pressure system giving us better angle starting now until we reach the big high pressure that’s sitting in the Atlantic in the next day or two.
Once passing the Scoring Gate and the edge of the ice limit the fleet will likely venture north finding hopefully some good strong low pressure systems to take us home, so basically we could have good breeze from now on, let's see.
Bye for now,
Ryan, Charlie and crew
