Wind goes up.
Wind goes down.
Wind goes straight.
Wind spins around.
Wind says hello.
Wind says goodbye.
We say “wait”.
“Ciao” says Zhuhai.
This is a poetic attempt at portraying what happened last night as Zhuhai sailed away from us at 8kts as we sat doing 1kt in a totally different area of wind despite us being less than 6nm away. What this poem doesn’t accurately convey is how frustrating it was for this to happen when we’d sailed really nicely to get ourselves ahead of them earlier in the day, but such is the game of high pressure roulette we play.
Fortunately, today and tonight have been much better. We’ve managed to haul back at least some of what we’d lost since then and I can’t believe I’m saying this but hopefully this means we’ve paid our debts and can now cash in on some good wind. Who knows? Not me, not Bob and I’ve asked all the crew but they’ve no clue either. We just have to believe, as one always must, that sooner or later the high pressure roulette will land on red.
