The things we sacrifice for this race. Tomorrow is my brother’s wedding (in Canada). For some of this race I maintained a small hope that I would be able to attend, with such a fast start, an early morning flight to Canada arriving and turning up in the nick of time was a subtle hope. But as with all things, it wasn't to be. Tomorrow, instead of sitting in a vineyard by Niagara Falls (drinking what can only be described as a tantalizing wine pairing) I will be racing my ocean going yacht with my crew off the west coast of Scotland.
I want to wish them an amazing day and wish them all the luck and happiness in the world. I will raise a glass of freshly made water to them and will save any further celebrations until Oban.
In racing news, we are crossing the high pressure that our weather routing software has been telling us wasn't possible, and we needed to detour further north on a two day journey to St Kilda to avoid. But with confidence born only of racing this distance, we did what you’re not meant to do and dived in bow first. So far, we are on the way out unscathed, but there is still a long way to go to reach the finish.
Dare To Lead on the horizon in front of us, not the sight we wanted, but a focus point for the end of this race and a chance to redeem what we can.
