As I sit and write this, watching the sunrise at around 3am, the sky is slowly starting to colour from being not quite dark to a palate of colour; rose hues to pale blue. We are slowly making progress towards the Finish Line with our friends Bekezela hot on our keels and keeping us on our toes. It feels like miles away right now because of the two wind holes that are appearing on the weather forecast.
We took a chance to head further north to see if we would make up ground on the leading pack. Unfortunately, a few days ago we got stuck in windhole number one which slowed us right down. Today the wind has slowly tailed off from 12-15 knots true when we were flying our Code 2, to now 8-10 knots true. We did a quick sail change to our Code 1 to try and squeeze out every little bit of speed we can.
The bonus of coming north is that we did well on the Ocean Sprint, being extra focused and hopefully with the extra few knots of wind pushing us along we might get a point or two.
We are slowly running out of some of the more important victualling purchases, such as milk powder (the important question is what will Mike add to his tea?) and yeast; two very important ingredients for breakfast. Thanks to the wonderful Nicky Miller we now have a scone recipe (the big debate on board is how to pronounce it), so Jess tested the recipe out and they were amazing. At least we now know what we are having for breakfast when the rations have run out!
