Morning all,
Well, this is it, the last blog from PSP Logistics on the Clipper 2023-24 Race. We can see the Lizard on our port beam - England! It seems crazy that this eleven-month adventure around the world only has one day left at sea and of course the party onshore!
This final dash (!!!) From Oban has been a fantastic race on PSP Logistics so far, as we have adapted to the changing conditions, built on coming second across the Start Line, and stayed at the front of the pack.
Sadly, the night before last, our lightweight Code 1 spinnaker finally called it quits. Too much UV exposure in all parts of the world and, in the lightest of breezes, it just tore from top to bottom. A quick recovery - well done team - but we have been struggling for boat speed ever since and have been slowly slipping back in the rankings. But, as you know, it isn’t all about the racing. We have been surrounded by dolphins almost constantly for the past 48 hours, we have seen seals, and yesterday, in the middle of the Celtic Sea, we saw a whale. Amazing!! There have been plenty of gannets flying about. These are close relatives of the boobies that have kept us company all around the world, so a lovely bookend to the adventure.
I must say a massive thank you to all the crew for all their efforts and hard work over the past year, whether it be on or off the boat, or raising money for UNICEF. We have created a unique culture on board, and I am very proud of it. I would also like to say a big thank you to PSP Logistics for being such an active, engaged, and generous sponsor! And of course, as we say hello again tomorrow to family and friends, we must thank them for being part of this journey and for supporting us along the way.
And so, for the final time...On on!!!
