It’s been a busy time on UNICEF since the last blog. Kite saga continued, we were rocketing along under our much repaired Code 3, the excitement of going fast combined with the wind slowly increasing, led to us missing the opportunity to drop it in one piece. Instead, it seems fated to only come in pieces. It now resides in the sail repair waiting room. Ready to be put back together once the boat stops rocking so much.

After working our way along the inshore route, in the company of Dare To Lead and Perseverance, our tactical plans were spoiled by a US Navy missile firing range that was conducting live firing exercises directly along our route. Our timing could have been better as just after we had completed the course diversion, they announced on the VHF that the exercises had finished for the day and normal navigation could resume. We are now in good company with the majority of the fleet having come back together as we leave the cost of the USA and start our way down Mexico. The sun is out, and shorts and t-shirts are being spotted on deck by the harder members of the crew. Some are still clinging to the woolly hats and thermal mid layers. Stating that it’s not warm yet.

Dan, Laura and an excited UNICEF team.
