Mamma Mia – here we go again!

After a wonderful stop in Puerto Sherry, today was the day to leave the sunny coast, terra firma luxuries and return to our rollercoaster race!

The start was rather exciting, much windier than Portsmouth, with a brilliant entry from the whole fleet. We have now entered our first tactical choice – heading north, or south on the first tack, we are off north with Yacht Club Punta del Este, while the rest of the fleet are heading south. Vamos Punticef I say…

Hopefully by sunrise we will see which tactical decision pays off. The energy on board is best described by a crewmember as ‘apprehensive excitement.’ For most of our team, this is the beginning of their first ever ocean crossing, a huge feat, which few people on earth are lucky to experience.

The awareness of the gravity of the challenge is looming at the back of everyone’s mind, bringing a surge in energy levels. The roller-coaster has come with its usual fun, seasickness and down below returning to a climbing frame.

Looking forward to some Trade Wind sailing as we get further south. Massive shoutout to our supporters who made it to Puerto Sherry to support us, and those following along!
