It’s been an interesting 48 hours as we sail past Cabo Frio and its acceleration zone into a cold front.
The wind has dropped from 30knt to 5knt and been coming from every direction, we are bobbing around like a cork trying to keep the sails full and the boat moving. It’s too unstable for our delicate spinnakers, so we are working with the much more versatile Yankee 1.
This evening we stopped racing for around two hours to meet up with Qingdao and conduct a much-needed medical supply transfer as we had used our stores.
Thankfully they were only 6nm away from us. So, they didn't need to stop racing while we motored over to transfer the required supplies. It’s great to be sailing with the Clipper Race fleet as we know we are all out here not only to race but support each other when needed, be it spare parts for our water maker (thanks Zhuhai) medical supplies (thanks Qingdao) or just an occasional friendly chat on the VHF when we are close.
Don’t get me wrong, we all want to beat each other to the finish line, but we also know just what it takes to make these incredible remote journeys. We are out here together experiencing the world’s oceans at their best.
I would just like to mention the shore-based team that provide us with incredibly useful advice by email and sat phone, they are an amazing bunch taking our creative descriptions and understanding not only what we are talking about but what help we require.
