It seems on the Clipper Race so far, we have been delving deeper (Editor’s note: great use of its Team Partner’s slogan Dan) into our relationship with Washington, DC. We bear away, they bear away, we gybe, they gybe, it's quite sweet and we are becoming a little attached to our friends. Having also spent all of our dock time beside them since prep weeks it feels only right. It looks like Dale is also coming to join the party, probably after reading Mr. Finney’s recent blog.
Harmony has been somewhat restored onboard UNICEF, the boat is flat, and it is sunny. Earlier I listened to “Young person’s guide to the orchestra” while helming which was an incredible feeling (listen and you will understand, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra version please) sheer orchestral genius.
We had a very spicy Code 3 drop earlier but are glad to have her back down safe in our hands.
In other banter, we are all getting rather hench, with watches of seven, everyone is working their bunda off to keep us zooming to Cape Town. Sue and her team have victualled some great food, and most of us are eating thirds at all mealtimes - which is a testament to the banquets we have been having! An amuse bouche course would not seem out of place.
Speaking of bundas, a crew member, who shall not be named, got a lovely sheet whip right along the bottom of both bum cheeks, which will look great at the summer beach festival in Cape Town.
Looking forward to seeing what our next wind hole brings.
P.S Happy birthday Mumma Hampton, sending big love and hugs!
Dan, Laura and the UNICEF crew
