The drag race east is almost over, and shortly we will be turning northeast and heading for warmer latitudes. Most of us on board are looking forward to when we no longer need to spend 30 mins getting all our layers on when it’s time for watch.

Today we had some blue sky, and saw the sun for the first time in about a week of grey, cloud covered skies. This instantly improved everyone’s mood. There was also a period when a couple of the braver crew opened their portholes to help vent the boat and dry out some of the condensation. This does however come with the risk that when a wave crashes into the boat, throwing spray and water over the side, it runs across the deck in through the open port hole, creating a nice waterfall right on to someone’s bunk, soaking anything in its path. I have noticed that the top bunk crew are happier to open the port holes as their bunks are not in the firing line.
