Since our last update, we have been racing to catch up with the front boats. Unfortunately, Dare To Lead has succeeded in its effort to catch up and sail past us. Well done to them in passing us.
We are hopeful that we may be able to repay the favour before the end of this race. Only time will tell, as we all continue racing on.
After our Christmas wrap of the Code 2, it has been in surgery in the sail locker, having a thorough health check. Zina and Fausto, our sail repair gurus, with the help of Tanya and Ingred, patched up the handful of holes big and small. Code 2 now has a clean bill of health and has been declared ready to fly.
Spirits are high amongst the crew as they enjoy the chilly but sunny weather and flat-ish seas. The deck and galley have been filled with laughter. It's been fantastic to see everyone getting a chance to improve their skills on the helm and talk sail trim on deck alongside sharing stories from home.
Yesterday morning we saw some southern right whale dolphins. These are very distinctive as they have a white lower half and no dorsal fin. The pod played around our boat for a few minutes before continuing on their way.
