Hello.

We’ve had quite the interesting few days, which involve a small diversion back towards the US.

Cat sustained some injuries caused by an unfortunate interaction with a coffee pot. After the shock, Cat felt okay in herself but after some long conversations with MSOS, our telemed service and members of the Race Office, we concluded the best move was to get Cat to land where she can be properly treated in a more steady environment.

We headed back to the US where we were intercepted by the US Coastguard and its helicopter who dropped a swimmer into the water. The swimmer then boarded Washy, helped get Cat sorted and then took her off and to the helicopter. We are sending all our love to Cat. I hope that she makes a speedy recovery and we cross our fingers we can see her in Oban. I must also compliment the US Coastguard for a very clear well organised medivac. Thank you also to all the kind messages we received wishing Cat and the boat well.

Our focus now turns back to the racing, thanks to the efficiency of the US Coastguard, we are not nearly as far behind as we first thought, only 40-ish nm from the middle of the main pack. We’re now in a rather liberating racing position of nothing to lose so more motivated than ever to sail as quickly as possible to try make a pub chat worthy comeback.

Before I go, I must congratulate Watch Leader Liz, who has now sailed every line of longitude which I think very much classes as circumnavigating the globe. A momentous achievement, well done Liz.

All the best, Hannah, Ella and the Washington, DC Crew.
