So here we are back racing, slowly, but moving. Washington, DC was really cool, The Events DC team was amazing, they know how to run a show. Lots of family came to visit us and that boosted us, especially at this stage of the race. The night departure ceremony was very cool, with flares and fireworks.
A moment to remember forever. The pilotage back through the Potomac River was easier as we were already familiar with the bends and the narrow channels. Our last Le Mans Start of this edition of the race was very interesting, from upwind to dead downwind in a blink. Ten minutes later we all hoisted spinnakers and we are now slowly moving eastwards, trying to catch the Gulf current which will be a bonus. We are expecting some upwind sailing for tomorrow, which is a pity but will be an excellent opportunity for the new joiners to start feeling the weight of the boat on the helm.
Today some of them have already started their respective sessions under spinnaker and did very well. The team is getting quickly into a routine, and we are all very motivated. I’m happy as we are achieving good boat speed when we focus. It’s really interesting to have all the fleet around us and see their choices on course to steer and sail plans.
I’ll be giving more details about each one of my crew members soon, when I see more of them, but what I can say is that they are all fine, learning and working together in peace and enjoying our last Ocean Crossing of the circumnavigation. What a privilege!
Send us good vibes, Vamos Punta!
