Hello Terricolas,
We are on the fight, hoisting Code 3, Yankee, Code 2, Yankee, Code 1, staysail yes, staysail no, and all those fun things we do over here. It’s been hard to catch the fleet, the Gulf Stream currents are never where the forecast say they are, to be honest, nothing on the forecasts makes sense anymore; for example on the last leg we went from 1st to 10th because we trusted the forecast too much and every ocean I sail again the prevailing winds are not there, you end up upwind for days. So, my conclusion is to trust less this science and more what's happening with the barometer and the Windex here on deck. Maybe I’ll have to study a degree in meteorology to really understand this science, but meanwhile I blame global warming for destroying every weather patron on earth. Of course, the real one to blame is the human race, especially greedy people.
On the bright side, we had a weird dinner, bamboo sticks, I just can’t understand how I end up eating panda’s food, but in Barel & Cleo’s victualling we trust. As I write it’s Will’s birthday, what a legend he is, he works sooo hard and has picked up lots of tricksvery fast, how I wish I had him for more legs. Sergio’s nickname is Speedy Gonzalez, as he does everything with passion, grinds hard, pulls hard, helms well, making Mexico look really good! ‘Hechale huevos’ is our new shout on deck. Dave, he is on it with the sailing and with a super nice vibe all the time, such a nice guy to talk with. Lucy, started with seasickness but already a couple of days ago started to enjoy life, she is trimming very well and loves the calm nights full of stars. We think she also enjoyed the broach too, but she will never confess until being on land. Barel, what an intelligent human, that man can learn flash mode, he is already flowing on deck and in the helm like if he had done half around the world; and he brought good music like Sabina Calamaro and others. Flo, our German diamond, he just came so motivated he doesn’t stop trying to push the limits of performance, he is on top of every job, grinds like JP and Victor together and has a lot of patience when Cloe told him off in the galley! He can definitely embark on a sailing career if he wants. Simone, what a lovely person she is, with the most contagious laugh on board she is now embarking on her helming career, and she is learning fast. She is a motorboatracer, so she has been through water faster than most of us here. She is a very trustable cockpit person and whenever we need help on deck she will come up in her base layers and help us nonetheless, getting completely soaked. Nico, Niiiiiiiico, our top sailor is showing great ‘Santi Lange’s’ skills, already making Argentina proud. I love our Argentinian brothers, for us Uruguayans they are really like our big brothers, you love them and fight with them for things that are from Uruguay, and of course they think it’s theirs. On board this boat there is no chance, Gardel is Uruguayan, the best Dulce de Leche is ours, Mate is ours and there is a rumour that Messi and Di Maria were born in Uruguay. I’m not sure about what Chip will say, but on board CV26 it is true. Today we told Nico while he was helming that Argentina got knocked out of the Copa America and he believed it and got really upset, it was really fun. Mike’s idea to play with him. The rest of the crew are enjoying our last crossing, improving a lot on the helm, some of them getting frustrated when the wind shifts and waves wins the battle, but that’s part of the learning. Even now, 10.5 months later we all keep learning. We are more than halfway through the Atlantic, we made our mistakes but there is a lot to be played and we are motivated. We are a tight team and we are all working back to back! Big hug to all our ex-crew, we are looking forward to seeing you guys in Oban. Vamos Crew! Vamos Punta!
