What an interesting first day we had so far. The South China Sea hasn’t been kind, especially for the new crew who hadn’t time to get their sea-legs, or the multi-leggers to get theirs back.

We have been making good progress on the race, although we are sailing upwind. We are missing the fast progress by having to tack over and over again. We had some interesting situations with fishing vessels which made us adjust course away from our ideal course as they have priority over us ocean racers. However, we can see good seamanship in cargo ships as they were very responsive to alter course to keep us safe.

Looking forward to seeing my new leggers settle down and enjoy better sea state. So far, it has been tough up wind sailing and the green monster seems very happy here.
