Hello everybody!
Well, here we go, the final blog, the final day or so of sailing. Its surreal really, it's always felt like its miles away and that there's no point in thinking about it because it's not even close to being on the horizon. There has always been more sailing ahead, one more country to visit one more race to race and the prospect of another heart wrenching goodbye.
Honestly most of the time you can’t wait for the race to stop, for the pressure and constant stress to be lifted, to see your loved ones and for normality to resume. Then every now and again you catch yourself and remember that actually it hasn't all been constant stress, pressure and loneliness (very dramatic but sometimes it really is) and wet.
It’s been eye-wateringly funny, jaw-droppingly beautiful and unbelievably exciting. We have sailed in every ocean on the planet and visited most of its continents and it's been an absolute privilege to have shared it all with this team of people. They are quite remarkable and most of all its them I will miss once the dust settles. I don't like the term ‘the adventure of a lifetime’ because there should always be another one round the corner, but there's no denying it's been a pretty bloody good one. But for now, we are locked in on last high stakes driftathon with our nemeses, and this one fittingly looks like it's going to be the best one yet. We are doing our best to spoil the party for Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam and Perseverance. Let’s see if we can hold on for the last 140 nautical miles!
Thank you for reading these and a huge huge huge well done and thank you to all Zhuhai crew and supporters, past and present. We wouldn't be here without you!
All the best from the crew, Mike and myself
