SIR ROBIN KNOX-JOHNSTON: A SAILING LEGEND
The Clipper Race wouldn’t be here today without Sir Robin. His life has been filled with adventures on all of the world’s oceans – and he has a passion to share those thrills with others.
THE TIMES GOLDEN GLOBE 1968/69
Sir Robin captured public imagination in the 1960s with his solo, non-stop circumnavigation in the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race. Departing Falmouth in June 1968 aboard Suhaili, he returned 312 days later on April 22, 1969, making history. Since then, he has raced worldwide and founded the Clipper Race to make ocean racing accessible to all.
“By taking on Mother Nature’s toughest conditions, we widen our horizons and have memories to cherish that can only be won through experience and teamwork” - Sir Robin Knox-Johnston
