The Race

The Clipper Race is one of the biggest challenges of the natural world and an endurance test like no other.

Race Crew inside the tight quarters of a sailboat. One crew member climbs down a ladder from an open hatch above, while two others organize equipment in the bunk area. Blue storage bags and gear are secured on either side of the narrow space, highlighting the cramped and functional setup needed for an ocean race.Link arrow

The Life

A Clipper 70 is no place for the faint-hearted. Every team member has a role on deck and is trained to form a self-sufficient unit, ready to handle any situation, no matter how severe.

FAQs

From training duration to fitness requirements, find the answers you need below.

Levels 1 and Level 2 are designed to get everyone used to big boat sailing and the training takes place on the Clipper 68s. Our primary aim is to get everyone used to the size and scale of these yachts, and to ensure that first and foremost, as we run through all the aspects of sailing, we are teaching you how to do things safely. There is much repetition in the first week – your Level 1, as you will sail the yacht on every point of sail, practice many sail hoists and changes, reefing the mainsail etc – along with man overboard (MOB) and other safety drills. These are long, tough days and while you live, eat and sleep on board the boats for all four of your training weeks, that first week you will either be in the marina or anchored or moored somewhere else at night, to help you get a decent sleep on a relatively still and flat yacht.
